The Walter Kerr Theatre stands as one of Broadway's intimate treasures, hosting some of the most acclaimed productions in American theater. This Midtown Manhattan playhouse has earned a reputation for presenting both star-driven revivals and groundbreaking new works, offering audiences the chance to experience Broadway magic in a more personal setting than many of the district's larger venues.
The theater's smaller scale creates an exceptionally intimate atmosphere where every seat feels connected to the action on stage. The proximity between performers and audience members fosters a unique energy that larger theaters simply cannot match, allowing for subtle performances and quiet moments to land with full impact. The acoustics carry every whispered line and musical note clearly throughout the house, ensuring that no dramatic nuance is lost.
Situated in the heart of the Theater District, the Walter Kerr Theatre places you right in the pulse of Broadway's energy. The surrounding blocks buzz with pre-show excitement as theatergoers fill the sidewalks, and the nearby restaurants and bars provide perfect spots for post-show discussions. The neon glow of marquees and the distinctive rhythm of Times Square create an unmistakably New York theatrical experience.

First Broadway show and it was great. Really cool to see Kurt Elling sing (well known jazz singer) and act during Hadestown. The show itself was incredible with its choreography / singing/ set design. The theater itself is gorgeous and has a cozy nature to it. Staff is helpful and the decor is very classy. I echo the statements for women’s bathroom as I was exploring the venue I saw a very long line right before the show so make sure to go before ahead of time!
Lovely cozy space to watch Hadestown. I came alone but left making two new friends beside me. The musical has a way to connect people through shared stories and experiences. Sat at E110, so 3rd row from the stage. Very close to the cast! Only wished the seats were a little bigger and the place had more washrooms.
Came here for date night with my partner, and we saw Hadestown. Cozy theater. Recommend going to restroom before the show because it was easy to access the restrooms beforehand, during the intermission the lines were really long for bar and restroom. Employees of the theater were informative and polite with the exception of a gentlemen outside who could have used different words when sharing with us on the outside that there were two lines. There was ordering accessible from the chair by placing the phone on the ledge which was convenient for snacking through the show. Clean theater and restrooms. The paintings and ceiling to me were breathtaking. No photos or recording during the play but at the very end saw numerous folks taking pics of the cast when they walked out, so I joined in. The cast kept us engaged and the theater on queue laughed, clapped and reacted together. This was my first play on Broadway, and we are already planning more. Pamphlet came with the show that provided events and things to do around the theater. The merchandise provided for the show was also reasonably priced. No disappointments ,looking forward to the next one!
I wasn’t sure how a musical about hell could be as good as people claimed it to be. Guys, it’s as good as people claim it to be! I was blown away by the originality. This is the view from the mezzanine, B11. The seats in the mezzanine are super steep with the row in front of you only going up to your knees so that tall people won’t block your view. If you need a friend to go with just let me know, I’d see it again!
We arrived at this theater to see Hadestown. And the show nor the theater did not disappoint. The theater is beautiful and has wonderful art on the walls and beautiful chandeliers. Due to the nature of the theater some seats are definitely better than others, the sides tending towards the speakers which can really throw off the audio balance. But that varies from show to show. There are no real places to stand once you're in since the passages are narrow. But in the end it provides a wonderful beautiful venue.
