The Samuel J. Friedman Theatre stands as one of Broadway's more intimate venues, offering audiences a closer connection to the theatrical magic unfolding on stage. As part of Manhattan Theatre Club's theatrical empire, this venue has become synonymous with sophisticated drama and compelling storytelling, hosting productions that range from thought-provoking plays to smaller-scale musicals that benefit from its more personal scale.
The theatre's intimate setting creates an electric atmosphere where every seat feels connected to the action. The proximity between performers and audience members fosters an immediacy that larger Broadway houses simply cannot match, allowing for nuanced performances and subtle theatrical moments to land with full impact. The venue's acoustics ensure that every whispered line and dramatic pause resonates clearly throughout the space, while sightlines are carefully designed to give patrons an unobstructed view of the stage.
Located in the heart of Manhattan's Theatre District, the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre sits among the bustling energy of Broadway, where marquee lights illuminate the sidewalks and theatergoers stream between venues before curtain time. The surrounding blocks pulse with the excitement of New York's theatrical scene, filled with restaurants perfect for pre-show dining and the unmistakable anticipation that comes with being at the center of American theater.

This is my second time at this theater. I watched Mary Jane then Old Friends. They don’t have concession stands on each floor. There’s only a lounge at the lower level so if you want a drink or snack, you’ll have to come early since it gets pretty crowded. But you can preorder your drink or snack to pick up during the intermission since you only have 15 minutes until the second act. The seats are comfortable and you can hear the sound very well.
This is an excellent theater. We were sitting in the third from the back row (O) in the orchestra and could see and hear everything perfectly. The staff were wonderful. The seats were comfortable. All was good.
"Old Friends" show... the best. I am happy to have gotten tickets to see Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga and Company. Their were awesome. And I saw Mario Cantone from Sex and the City.
Great theater, the seats and rows feel a bit roomier than other broadway theaters. Quick line and the staff was friendly. Including a photo of the view from Orchestra row c, seats 114 & 116.
We saw Old Friends here. The staff was very cordial and accommodating. This is a cozy theatre so getting seats on the top row of the balcony wouldn’t make the stage and actors too small.
