The Sunrise Theatre stands as Fort Pierce's premier performing arts destination, hosting an eclectic mix of classical music, comedy shows, rock concerts, and specialty performances. This historic venue has become the cultural heart of the Treasure Coast, drawing both touring acts and local productions to its intimate setting. The theater's diverse programming reflects the varied tastes of Florida's east coast communities, offering everything from symphony orchestras to stand-up comedians.
What sets the Sunrise Theatre apart is its welcoming atmosphere that makes every performance feel like a special occasion. The venue strikes that perfect balance between elegance and accessibility, where you can enjoy a world-class classical recital one night and laugh along with touring comedians the next. The acoustics and sightlines create an engaging experience regardless of your seat, fostering a connection between performers and audience that larger venues often lack.
Located in downtown Fort Pierce, the theater anchors the city's revitalization efforts along the Indian River. The surrounding area offers a pleasant mix of local restaurants and cafes perfect for pre-show dining, while the waterfront location adds to the evening's charm. Arriving for a show here feels like discovering a cultural gem on Florida's coast, where the laid-back coastal atmosphere meets serious artistic programming.

We attend shows and concerts at this venue on a regular basis. The shows have all been AMAZING, but of course, that's all about the talent!! The venue is an older theater and a bit on the small side. That said, it makes the experience a more intimate one with a lot of charm. The seats are comfortable, roomy, clean, and all have a clear view of the stage. As with any public venue, they do have handbag size restrictions, so save yourself the stress, do not bring one at all! Staff have been consistently friendly and helpful. There are a lot of free parking options in the downtown area, and a lot of restaurants and bars to grab drinks before or after the show. Enjoy & Have a Great Evening!
The Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce is truly a gem for St. Lucie County. With its rich history and beautiful setting, it brings world-class performances, concerts, and cultural events right to our community. Having both the main stage and the Black Box Theatre makes it versatile for large productions as well as intimate shows. It not only provides entertainment but also supports local artists and drives downtown business. The Sunrise Theatre is a wonderful benefit for residents and visitors alike, adding culture, energy, and pride to St. Lucie County.
Attended a great Christmas special with friends and loved it. The place is great , no a bad seat in the house. Looking forward to many more shows there.
Typically I have an amazing experience at the Sunrise Theatre so I never thought I would be leaving a review like this, but here we are. When I initially saw the ads for the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I was excited to find a shadow cast nearby and eagerly got the tickets- weeks in advance. Finally, last night on Halloween, we went to the showing- I wanted to go all out, we had great seats and I even bought the prop bags because my best friend had never seen RHPS and I wanted her to get the full experience… The showing began at nine, when someone visibly pressed the play button on the computer. The lights dimmed yet still stayed on in the house, and as the music began… out walked the “cast.” The casting choices were questionable, Riff Raff clearly didn’t even know the words and the same could be said to the majority of the cast. Though, with the volume being so low I couldn’t hear what the song was even saying, I guess it didn’t matter too much. People yelled out for the volume to be turned up, it was a known issue, and they “turned it up”, which still left it inaudible. I don’t even want to start on the sad excuse for “costumes” the cast had on. The only cast member who had a clue what was going on was Magenta, who you could tell had actually seen the movie, and the costume she was given was just depressing. By 9:20 we had left the building to get away from the pathetic showing and made our way to the box office for a refund but… Nope. Not an exchange, not a return. Nothing. I have a video of us at 9:23 walking away from the theatre, AFTER we spoke to staff. So I am just expected to eat $60 in tickets for the worst 20 minutes of my life. Despite how highly I’ve viewed the sunrise theatre, after this beyond disappointing experience and lack of customer support, I highly doubt I will be returning. I will be filing a dispute through my bank because that is ridiculous, considering how many less expensive HIGH QUALITY things there are to do on Halloween, unlike this overpriced disgrace of a show. Take it from me, and DO NOT GO to one of their shadow cast performances.
We caught a fun show this weekend, Mary Poppins put on by the local arts academy. The theatre experience was good all around. Easy in and out. Seemed clean and tidy. Sound was adequate. The vibe was that of a vintage style theater with some modern elements. Plenty of seats and a roomy balcony. Go see a show, keep these small local theaters open!
