Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center stands as UC Davis's premier performing arts venue, hosting an elegant array of classical music, theater, jazz, and dance performances. This sophisticated hall serves as both a cultural beacon for the university community and a destination for world-class touring artists, presenting everything from intimate chamber music recitals to full-scale ballet productions and innovative jazz performances.
The hall offers audiences an intimate yet refined concert experience, with carefully designed acoustics that allow every nuance of a pianist's touch or a dancer's movement to resonate throughout the space. The venue's thoughtful design creates an atmosphere where audiences feel connected to the performers, whether experiencing the sweep of a symphony orchestra or the subtle interplay of a jazz ensemble. The sight lines ensure that every seat provides an engaging view of the stage, making each performance feel personal and immediate.
Nestled in the heart of Davis, the Mondavi Center sits within the vibrant UC Davis campus, surrounded by tree-lined streets and the intellectual energy of university life. The venue draws both students and community members, creating a unique blend of academic curiosity and cultural appreciation. Finish dinner 30+ minutes before showtime. Most restaurants offer pre-theater menus.
Highly recommended, especially for evening performances. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Most listed restaurants are within 5-10 minutes walk. Factor in extra time during busy hours.

Incredible diversity of theatrical shows, music, presentations in a World Class center for the performing arts. The adjoining Vanderhoef Studio Theatre is a smaller, 250-seat performance space located within the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center, and it's my favorite for intimate jazz, art and other presentations.
They were very accommodating to my child with behavior needs. He was able to sit in a side area with a carpeted area and pillows. He actually stayed for probably a total of half the performance which is pretty remarkable for him.
We were 4th row center and thought the sound was a little bit "echoey" or "boxy" compared with other theaters we've been in. Otherwise a very nice place.
Mondavi center is wonderful! The seats are fairly comfortable with many different price range options. Some spots to the far sides may have slightly limited stage view. Concessions include beer, wine and Starbucks nitro coffee among other beverage options and I believe I saw Kind bars and chips for sale too. The main parking is a little walk from the center but I've been able to find parking closer to the building each time I visited. I look forward to my next visit here!
What a beautiful space to see an opera or symphony all while supporting U.C. Davis and their students. There is plenty parking for events and you can't get online and reserve parking very easily for about $10. Inside you'll find comfortable seats, clean and well appointed bathrooms and some tables and chairs to gather as you wait for "showtime." You can buy alcoholic beverages, refreshments and snacks at the snack bar on your way into the theater. A really nice event space.
