Circle In The Square Theatre stands as one of Broadway's most distinctive venues, renowned for its innovative thrust stage configuration that brings audiences into intimate contact with the performance. This celebrated theater has carved out a unique niche in the Broadway landscape, hosting both acclaimed revivals and bold new works that benefit from its unconventional staging possibilities. The venue's commitment to theatrical excellence has made it a favorite among both performers and theatergoers seeking something beyond the traditional proscenium experience.
The theater's thrust stage design creates an incredibly immersive experience, with seating that wraps around three sides of the performance area. This configuration means that no audience member sits more than a few rows from the action, creating an electric intimacy that few Broadway venues can match. The close proximity allows for nuanced performances and subtle moments that might be lost in larger houses, while the excellent sightlines ensure that every seat offers a compelling view of the unfolding drama.
Situated in the heart of Manhattan's Theater District, Circle In The Square Theatre sits among the legendary venues that define Broadway's golden corridor. The surrounding streets buzz with the energy of theater lovers, street performers, and the iconic neon lights that have drawn audiences to this neighborhood for generations. Arriving for a show here means stepping into the very essence of New York's theatrical tradition, surrounded by the restaurants, bars, and pre-show excitement that make Broadway nights unforgettable.

was our 1st time in the "basement of Wicked". we saw Just In Time - what a great performance. But even better - the theater staff was incredible - from Will Call to security, ushers, to bar staff - they were all just welcoming inviting, answering a couple of questions we had about the theater & how it's a teaching facility as well as being a performance theater. What a great time. we had floor seats - right next to the tables for the just in time layout. But I can easily see how other productions can take advantage of this wonderful space. Cannot wait to have another experience at this theater.
The play Just in Time was excellent. Even the most affordable seats were good given the size and layout of the theater. The theater was decorated in a way to make it an immersive experience. The drinks are very expensive, the only down side.
I recently saw Just in Time at Circle in the Square and was absolutely blown away. The theatre’s unique in-the-round setup is transformed into a swinging nightclub, with live music and immersive staging that makes every seat feel like the best in the house. Jonathan Groff leads with charisma and warmth as Bobby Darin, and the venue’s intimate layout makes you feel like you’re part of the show. Circle in the Square has a rich history of staging bold, memorable productions—and the lineup you’ll find in that basement space is nothing short of impressive. I remember seeing the revival of Once on This Island (2017–2019) and being amazed by how the stage was literally covered with sand and even live animals, which brought the story to life in a visceral way . A few years earlier, Fun Home ran from April 2015 to September 2016, offering emotional depth and powerful storytelling that left a mark . And who could forget Godspell, which was revived there from late 2011 to mid‑2012, filling the stage with vibrant energy and ensemble charisma . Each of these productions showcases Circle in the Square’s extraordinary ability to reinvent itself and fully inhabit the world of each piece. Whether it's the intimacy of musical storytelling or dramatic innovation, this venue consistently surprises and delights. If you're looking for an intimate, creatively staged Broadway experience that truly adapts to its shows—and always leaves you talking about it afterward—Circle in the Square is a must-visit. I can’t wait to see what they do next!
How great is Just in Time? Fabulous! Jonathan Groff plays Bobby Darin—heartthrob playing heartthrob–even though their backgrounds were wildly different. Groff grew up middle-class in Pennsylvania's Amish country. Darin was a product of Italian Harlem. Groff's voice isn't quite as rich as Darin's but that's okay. His voice works, and he has learned to move gracefully like Darin. Gracie Lawrence plays Connie Francis and sings an utterly spectacular "Who's Sorry Now?" Darrin was the love of her life but her dad forbade marriage, resulting in life-long tragedy for both. Erika Henningsen plays Sandra Dee and will break your heart. The only distressing part of the production was the awful, gross accents of Darin's Italian-American family members. I doubt that any of them sounded so vulgar or behaved so badly. But everything else is first rate. Book tickets for the tables if you can. They truly enhance the experience.
Not a bad seat in the house! It’s a small theatre and great place to see a Broadway show. The seats surround the stage and you can feel part of the show. The actors are up close. The seating is sloped. So even if there’s a tall person in front of you, the view is clear. The theatre is in the lower level. You access via elevator, stairs & escalator. The staff was very welcoming & paid extra close attention to the senior & disabled guests to ensure their safety. Being located in the center of Times Square theatre district, restaurants & hotels are in walking distance. This is the 2nd show I’ve enjoyed in this venue. I’ll always welcome opportunity to see a show here!
